In light of the flooding from recent storms that rolled through the Southeast region, now is a good time to review tank securement. I have had to deal with my fair share of flooding incidents, including floods in my own bulk plant. It is stressful for not only you and your staff, but your customer as well. Just like anything, a little extra time and preparation ahead of these situations goes a long way to reduce your exposure to negative customer experiences and liability.

It is extremely important to do your due diligence when preparing for a new tank installation. There are a lot of places where you find out about flood plains in the permit process, but many simple tank installs don’t require a permit. You need to know your risks ahead of that install. If you find yourself in a flood plain or in an area that poses a geographical risk and you have no other choice in tank location, spend the extra time and effort to make sure your asset remains in place.
